So let’s say we imagine distributed work as a ski resort.
All kinds of different people come to the resort for different reasons. Some to learn, some to show off, some to challenge themselves, some to cheer others on.
You choose the experience you want and that works for you. Pick your hard - choose your own adventure.
Maybe you’ve been skiing since you were a child and you aren’t interested in basics but you head right to the black diamonds and the deep stuff. You are interested in maintaining access and challenging yourself to grow your skills. Maybe you want to mentor your kids or your friends.
Maybe you’ve never skiied before and need lessons. You start on the bunny hill. You need the coaching.
Or maybe you are like me and took some lessons when you were a teenager but never went back after the time your uncle took you skiing and broke his wrist, abandoning you at the resort with your cousin while he went to the hospital. True story - longest day ever, worrying if he was ok. It takes an effort to want to do it again. Plus, my eyes water, my face gets chapped and cold air triggers my asthma. The spa looks awfully attractive - especially the hot tub and the pool:)
Maybe you like cross country skiing. Or snowshoeing. Or skating. You never go up the mountain but you like the view and you want to support the resort.
Some people come but don’t ski at all. They go to the spa, drink hot chocolate in the chalet and chat with new friends. You get the drift ❄️
The point is, everyone has a different perspective on the experience because you have a different relationship to the resort based on your background and what you enjoy.
The resort is really a community. The black diamond runs are where the fully remote & the digital nomads hang out. The hybrid people run the gamut of skill from beginner to expert. The chalet is the office - choose it or don’t.
And that brings us to The Flexible Path. I’m the resort owner, bringing people together so you can deepen your experience and try new things.
Doors close tonight at midnight. I’ll start a waitlist for April Fool’s.
